Reiki Can Help in Trying Times

It’s been a while since I’ve written.  Before I get to anything else, I want to state that I fully support, cherish, celebrate and affirm the humanity of the LGBTQ+ community and people’s right to exist as they are. I stand against racism and the erasure of the histories of people of color, indigenous people and any historically oppressed and marginalized group. I believe in a woman’s right to make choices for her own body. I don’t think being poor is a moral failing.  I believe in diverse perspectives and open-mindedness, but if your perspective includes being OK with your fellow humans being treated as ‘less than’ by a government or a religious organization, etc. then please scroll on and find another practitioner to work with. Bigotry, homophobia, racism, sexism & classism have no place at Morning Sun Reiki.  


Reiki Can Help You Navigate These Trying Times


Since reiki energy is love, some people think reiki practitioners only feel positive all the time, or aim to only feel positive all the time.  I personally feel that in order to learn the most from our human experience, we must fully and authentically experience our humanity. Reiki/love/life force energy can help us as we navigate it all, especially at this point in time.  The truth is, I experience a range of emotions throughout the day, and lately those include feelings of fear and outrage more often than ever. I utilize reiki to support me as I move through those feelings while holding on to hope, peace and joy.


My goal is not to stop feeling angry about injustice and cruelty. It is not my intent or desire to gloss over confusing, shitty things.  Holding light without understanding darkness is simply denial and won’t solve any problems, personal or societal. Think about one of Dr. Usui’s reiki principles:  Just for today, do not be angry.  It doesn’t say don’t GET angry.  It says don’t BE angry.  Don’t live in it, don’t let it consume you. But it’s OK and appropriate to get angry when the situation warrants it. Reiki helps keep my core peaceful, helps recenter me, so even during emotional ups and downs, even though I’m mad as hell, I feel stable with a deep sense of love and peace within. That stability helps me be able to take action, be present for others and move through my life with purpose. 


Here are some quick and easy ways to integrate reiki into your day:

  • When you are about to read, scroll or watch media, take a few seconds to allow reiki to flow through you. Start from a centered space and when you’re done, ask reiki to help you integrate the information in a way that is safe and productive. 

  • On the way to work, an event, march, family gathering, whatever, picture yourself in a bubble of reiki that absorbs any negativity and protects you from emotional ‘poison arrows’.  Know that this reiki bubble may also reach others’ energy fields and support their highest good. It’s a great way to ‘spread the love’ and be protected at the same time!  

  • Infuse a crystal with reiki and wear it or hold it in your pocket. To do this, hold the crystal in your hands and give it reiki for 20 minutes.  Intend that the reiki continue for 24 hours and it will. Hold it or touch it as needed for centering.

  • Give reiki to a friend, animal, plant, or situation for a few minutes. That connection, however brief, is such a valuable part of personal and collective healing.
